Our story really begins back in 1956 when a young Herb Stange launched his plumbing career as an apprentice. He eventually advanced to journeyman, then master plumber.

In 1966 it was time to make his move. With the help of his wife, Jean, Herb opened Stange Plumbing Co. in Hutchinson, Kansas.

The business grew. In 1974, Steven Drake, a licensed master plumber, joined the company. His wife, Karen Stange Drake, signed on in 1979.

Since then, growth in products, services and staff has been the byword. We progressed, Karen says, to where the business led us. So in 1994 Stange expanded into kitchen and bath design, and changed the company name to Stange Plumbing & Design.

Stange redefined

It was a good move that has redefined the company, and made Stange the premier kitchen/bath design firm in the area. Karen has become the creative force who transforms drab, outdated rooms into fresh, functional, innovative spaces that have delighted customers…and attracted new ones.

Through the years, Stange’s service area has expanded more than 60 miles to include Wichita, Lyons, Sterling, McPherson, Stafford and other communities in south central Kansas.

Today Stange Plumbing & Design is the oldest plumbing company in Hutchinson under the same management. Also unchanged is the same commitment to service and quality that guided Herb and Jean when they first opened their doors more than 40 years ago.

We carry dozens of manufacturers offering the latest in faucets, sinks, cabinetry, countertops, lighting, flooring, fixtures, appliances – whatever you need – to turn your vision into reality.

Our new Stoneworks, Cabinetry & Design facility, located off-site, recently opened to offer custom cabinetmaking and stone cutting – marble, granite and limestone – to give you exactly what you want. You can preview the stone before we cut, and even select the portion of the stone you prefer.

We make sure that any work – whether plumbing or design – is performed with courteous service, is on schedule, and meets our quality standards.

Under the management staff of Herb, Jean, Steve and Karen, are five employees who work in the office and in the field. Among them are skilled cabinetmakers and specially-trained stone cutters who combine artistry with computerized technology.

What started in the back of the Stange family home has progressed to our stunning new office/showroom conveniently located at 2415 N. Main in Hutchinson. We have the very latest in kitchen and bathroom fixtures on display…so you can see just how beautiful and exciting a remodeled room in your home can be.
