About Us
Stange Plumbing & Design is a family owned business located in Hutchinson, Kansas. We started out as a full-line plumbing company in 1966 by Herb and Jean Stange. In 1975, Steven Drake and Karen Stange Drake joined the family business. In 1990, Steven and Karen expanded into full remodeling and design along with the plumbing services, running the day-to-day operations.
Herb has since retired and Jean is semi-retired, but both are still very much our mentors.
Today, Steve and Karen are involved with the entire remodeling process, from the very beginning all the way to project completion. They are engaged in every decision, no matter how large or small. It doesn't matter if you have a $5,000- or $100,000-project; customer happiness and satisfaction is the most important factor to us!
Our Team
All successful companies have a strong support staff behind them, and we feel we have the best in the business. In addition to our mentors Herb and Jean Stange, we have several other team members who work hard to continue delivering top-notch products and services.
Karen Drake
Owner and Designer; Karen brings 37 years experience to your remodeling projects. Her attention to detail and listening to your wants and needs are of the upmost priority. She also has served on the National Kitchen and Bath board for a number of years.
Steve Drake
Owner, Designer, and Licensed Master Plumber for 43 years. Steve is a graduate of McPherson College and has worked in all facets of residential and light commercial construction. During the past 25 years he has focused on residential kitchen and bath design.
Tara Schneider
Office Manager and Showroom Designer: Tara’s experience and dedication to our clients and our vendors is of the utmost professionalism.
Steve Poole
Finish Carpenter: Steve bring to us 35 years experience; he loves his craft and helping people see their dreams come true. He is also an excellent communicator.

Our 5-Step Remodeling Process
1. Before the project begins, we invite you to come into our showroom and visit with us.
2. We schedule a home visit to discuss your wishes and dreams within the space that will be remodeled.
3. We work up budget numbers and schedule an appointment in the showroom for you to come in and discuss the scope and design of your project (in approximately 2 weeks).
4. We walk you through the design and options, make final selections and schedule a project start date (approximately 4-5 weeks).
5. All through the project, we continue to talk and listen to you! Steve and Karen are both on all projects from start to finish, and each week, we give you a project schedule that we actually follow!
Nationally Recognized
Stange Plumbing & Design is a member of the national
Bath and Kitchen Buying Group (BKBG). Being part of this organization enables us to keep up on the most current trends and the best pricing available. Additionally, Karen has served on the National Board of Bath and Kitchen Design, and is certified for cabinetry design. She is also very involved with the local Hutchinson community.
Steve has served on the Hutchinson Building Board of Appeals, Kansas State Plumbing Board of Directors and the Endowment Board for Hutchinson Community College. Steve has a master plumbing license, and is also certified for backflow testing and cabinetry design.
